Am I covered if my vehicle’s windshield is cracked?

Chips in windshields can be hard to spot and, if not repaired, can be made worse by driving over a large bump or by temperature or weather changes. Your auto insurance (comprehensive or collision) will help cover the damage to your windshield, depending on the cause.

You are driving on the highway and a stray rock or piece of debris hits your windshield and leaves a chip in the glass or—even worse—a crack! Are you covered?

What type of insurance do I need to cover this?

Chips in windshields can be hard to spot and, if not repaired, can be made worse by driving over a large bump or by temperature or weather changes. Your auto insurance (comprehensive or collision) will help cover the damage to your windshield, depending on the cause.

What special endorsements do I need to help ensure this is covered?

Basic comprehensive or collision coverage provides full coverage for a small chip repair.  A full windshield replacement is subject to a deductible, so Acuity would only be able to make payments for the replacement of your windshield for the amount that exceeds your deductible. However, Acuity does offer a Full Safety Glass Endorsement, which would waive your deductible, so we could cover the full amount. Acuity’s close relationship with Safelite and its affiliate auto glass repair shops makes the replacement and billing process easy.

How do I check to make sure I have this coverage?

The Full Safety Glass Endorsement is an additional coverage to your base policy and is not automatically included. To make sure your vehicle has the Full Safety Glass Endorsement, check the declarations page of your insurance policy or contact your independent agent. Your agent can also discuss what limits, deductibles, and other valuable coverages make sense for you.
