What Is the Acuity Nurse Helpline?

The Acuity Nurse Helpline is a toll-free, round-the-clock phone service that connects injured workers with experienced, registered nurses at the exact moment of injury or as soon as the injury is identified. Available in both English and Spanish, this service empowers employees to get timely, expert advice and helps employers initiate the claim process efficiently and confidently. Whether it’s a minor cut or a potentially serious backstrain, the Acuity Nurse Helpline ensures no one has to navigate injury response alone.

How the Service Works

1. Injury Occurs: An employee reports an injury to their supervisor.

2. Call the Helpline: The employee (with or without the supervisor) calls the Acuity Nurse Helpline at 1.800.383.0049 — available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

3. Triage Assessment: A registered nurse uses evidence-based clinical guidelines to evaluate the severity of the injury.

4. Care Recommendation: Based on the assessment, the nurse advises the employee on the appropriate level of care — whether that’s self-care, first aid, an urgent care visit, or emergency services.

5. Documentation & Reporting: The nurse provides a full report of the call, which is then shared with Acuity and the employer if requested to assist in claims handling and injury documentation.

When Not to Use the Acuity Nurse Helpline

While the Nurse Helpline is a powerful tool for triaging most workplace injuries, it is not a substitute for emergency medical care. Call 911 or seek immediate emergency assistance if the injured worker:

  • Is unconscious or unresponsive
  • Has difficulty breathing or is experiencing chest pain
  • Has severe bleeding or visible broken bones
  • Shows signs of head or spinal injury
  • Is having a seizure or stroke
  • Is in any life-threatening condition

In these situations, prompt emergency care should be the first step. The Nurse Helpline can still be a helpful resource for follow-up reporting and documentation after the emergency is addressed.

Why It Matters: Benefits to Employers and Employees

For Employers:

  • Early Intervention: Immediate triage reduces unnecessary ER visits and improves claim outcomes.
  • Streamlined Reporting: Each call generates a detailed incident report, expediting the claims process.
  • Cost Control: Early medical guidance can prevent small issues from becoming major claims.
  • Compliance Confidence: Ensures OSHA reporting and workers' compensation procedures are supported from the start.

For Employees:

  • Reassurance: Speaking with a nurse instantly brings clarity and calm in stressful situations.
  • Appropriate Care: Ensures the right level of care, avoiding over- or under-treatment.
  • Bilingual Access: Nurses are available in English and Spanish to provide inclusive support.
