Am I covered if my vehicle breaks down and I need a tow?

If your vehicle is undrivable because of an accident, your personal auto insurance's collision or comprehensive coverage will also include a tow to your home or a body shop of your choice. The combined cost of the tow and the damage to your vehicle is subject to a deductible.

You’re driving on the interstate and suddenly hear a loud THUD! Coasting, you discover your vehicle’s gas pedal is now useless, so you safely make your way to the shoulder. Sitting in your disabled vehicle with the hazard lights flashing, you scroll through the saved contacts on your phone searching for someone to call who might be able to help. You see Acuity at the top of the list and think: Am I covered?

What type of insurance do I need to cover this?

If your vehicle is undrivable because of an accident, your personal auto insurance's collision or comprehensive coverage will also include a tow to your home or a body shop of your choice. The combined cost of the tow and the damage to your vehicle is subject to a deductible.

However, if your vehicle becomes impaired while driving because of an excluded cause like wear and tear, mechanical breakdown, or road damage to tires, a tow will not be covered unless towing coverage has been purchased for your policy.

What special endorsements do I need to help ensure this is covered?

If the Towing and Labor Costs Coverage endorsement has been purchased for your policy, Acuity will cover the cost of any roadside assistance, up to the limit described in the policy. This coverage applies to a tow, or any labor performed at the place of disablement, like help changing a flat tire. This coverage is not subject to a deductible.

How do I check to make sure I have this coverage?

To make sure your home and auto are covered with proper limits, or to see if you’re covered with the Towing and Labor Cost Coverage endorsement, check the declarations page of your insurance policy, or contact your independent agent today. Your agent can also discuss what limits, deductibles, and other valuable coverages make sense for you.
