Join us in celebrating this month’s honorees!
AssuredPartners of Northeastern Pennsylvania
AssuredPartners introduced a new benefit in 2020 called VTO, Voluntary Time Off, for employees who wish to volunteer their time in the community. They participated in the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Run/Walk and donated to Candy’s Place, a cancer and wellness resource center for cancer patients in honor of a coworker dealing with complications from breast cancer. They sponsored an adoptable pet for a local SPCA fundraiser, collected school supplies for area students, and volunteered for trash pick-up. They’ve donated time and funds to United Way campaigns supporting local food banks and homeless shelters. They are committed to serving their community and have shown that through a tradition of giving back.
Insurance Management Group, Marion, Indiana
Insurance Management Group supports several nonprofit organizations throughout the communities they serve, including Cancer Services of Grant County, The United Way of Grant County, the VA, Carey Services, Boys and Girls Club of Grant County, Kate’s Kart, Children’s Bureau, Inc., Marion-Grant County Humane Society, and many more. At Christmas, they fund and facilitate a Giving Tree and have involved the public by opening their facility as a drop-off location. Each year, they have a two-week period they call Project IMpact where their entire staff volunteer at different nonprofits in the community. Many members on their staff hold positions on nonprofit boards and employees are encouraged and incentivized to volunteer outside of work. As an agency, they are focused on giving back to help their community in any way they can, supporting organizations for men, women, children, and animals.
Phelan Insurance Agency Inc., Versailles, Ohio
For almost 30 years, Phelan Insurance Agency employees have volunteered four times a year to pick up litter on a two-mile stretch of road. At Christmas, they fund an adopt-a-family to help families in need and run a 25 Days of Giving program where they involve their community to choose the recipients of two donations from their agency. They also host a community meal program to give free hot meals to those in need and volunteer for community events. They host an Easter picture contest to involve the children in their community and fund sponsorships for local business and finance students to help them reach their goals. Phelan Insurance Agency has a long tradition of service to their community.
In 2019, Hausmann-Johnson Insurance’s Community Impact Team, along with support from leadership, launched their Community Impact Initiative. Through this program, each associate is able to donate $100 of corporate community funds to a charity of their choice annually. Associates deliver their checks to their chosen organizations and share pictures online with the hashtag #makeanimpact to highlight the local organizations and share the nonprofit missions. In the first year, over 60 percent of their workforce participated in the program, and when surveyed they overwhelmingly said they would donate again if the program continued. Many who did not participate in the first year were eager to do so in the future. This program also spurred engagement among their associates. Half of their associates who did not already volunteer or personally donate to their chosen charity began to do so after participating in this program, amplifying its impact. Their associates donated to many categories of nonprofit including, medical research and support, homelessness, hunger, literacy, and animal rescues. In addition to monetary support, they also provide their associates with 16 hours of Volunteer Time Off each year to support them in their volunteer efforts.
