In our ever-changing world, we are ordering online a lot more often. Ordering online can be convenient, but having a package stolen after it has been delivered is anything but! Here are some year-round tips you can use to keep your deliveries safe from unscrupulous porch pirates:

  • Use a video doorbell: Video doorbells are made from a variety of trusted companies. Not only will this help deter unwanted visitors, but it will also help let you know when your package is delivered!
  • Track your packages: All major delivery services provide package tracking. Knowing when your package is expected to arrive and where and when it is delivered is valuable in keeping your items safe. Many drivers now take pictures of your packages as confirmation of delivery.
  • Bring it in ASAP: While this might seem too obvious, the easiest way to prevent package theft is to bring your items in right away. If you are not home, see if a trusted friend or neighbor can stop and grab it for you until you get home.
  • Use secure delivery services: Some delivery services are now offering secure delivery and lock-box options. If you live in a high-traffic area where your items might be targeted, this might be something to consider.
  • Have a hiding spot: It is hard for someone to steal a package if they don’t see it. Provide delivery instructions or have a spot for drivers to place your items that is out of sight for passersby.

Thieves are looking for easy and quick opportunities. The harder you make it for them to get away undetected, the less likely they are to target your home. These are just a few tips to help prevent package theft. What do you do to keep your home deliveries secure?
