Ever thought about a career in insurance? Probably not—unless you know someone who works in the insurance industry. If you are thinking about college, interested in a career change, or just curious, consider some of the following benefits of a career in insurance.

Stability. Insurance has been around for centuries. Individuals, families, businesses, and communities all depend on insurance to protect their livelihoods, and there will continue to be a need for it.

Service. The whole purpose of insurance is to help people recover after something bad happens. When you work in the insurance industry, you are continuously serving others by providing peace of mind and protecting who and what they care about when the unexpected happens. You are also serving the businesses and communities where you live.

Variety. There are several types of insurance—life, health, car, home, business, etc. There are also many different positions. From being an insurance agent in your own agency to working for an insurance company, there are opportunities in technology, finance, marketing, communication, customer service, sales, underwriting, claims, training, and human resources, to name a few.

Rewards. Not only is it rewarding to help others, but it is also beneficial to work in an industry that means something to you personally. Depending on your role, you may not learn all the insurance lingo or what the fine print in your policy means, but you will likely have access to resources and people who do.

Advancement. As the world grows and changes, so does the insurance industry. Numerous classes are available to keep up with trends and further develop your skills. Many insurance companies reimburse employees for continuing their education.

If any of these reasons interest you, find someone who works in insurance and talk with them about their experience. You could also consider an internship or taking an insurance class to learn more. Visit Acuity’s website for current career openings!
