I bring over 35 years of experience in the construction industry in both field and office positions to Acuity including carpentry, welding, project management, contract negotiation, and much more. Also, I founded my own commercial general contracting firm specializing in building grocery stores. Over the years I’ve worked closely with architects, civil engineers, and developers. I’ve found it instrumental to build solid relationships with all involved in the construction project, including insurance companies. This is why I am here, I want to help you the contractor better understand insurance and help Acuity to offer products and services that meet your unique needs. I feel a close connection to construction and with my background I feel that I can make sure contractors have a better insurance experience.

Between the pandemic, adjustments to our work settings, and other changes, I think we can all agree that 2020 has been quite the year.

In the area where I live, I noticed that many people decorated their homes for Christmas earlier than normal. After a year of uncertainty, it seems people have been excited to focus on the holidays.

Recently, I spoke with the owner of a local roofing company. He was finishing up his business projects for the year and said, “It’s a few weeks earlier than normal for me, but after a year like this, I’m heading up north to decorate the cabin for a long holiday getaway.”

If you have more desire to get into the holiday spirit this year, you're not alone. If you need a little inspiration, here are some tips that may stir up your creativity for the holidays:

  1. Decorating for the season and playing seasonal music in the background can help set the atmosphere at home or the office.
  2. Connecting with old friends or family by phone can be uplifting and bring a sense of joy. I always enjoy when someone calls to catch up. It may be best to keep politics out of the conversation.
  3. Enjoying the outdoors can be a great way to take in the beauty of the season. My wife and I like to take walks in different forest preserves or snowshoe when the snow hits.
  4. Volunteering can bring great satisfaction and there is a need in most communities. Whether you volunteer at a food shelter, a community event, or a homeless shelter, making the season brighter for someone else can also brighten your season. Recently, I had the opportunity to help a few elderly neighbors hang lights on their homes. I enjoyed seeing the excitement on their faces.
  5. Children love Christmas and spending extra time with the young ones in your family playing games, watching classic Christmas movies, or reading stories can create good memories for everyone.
  6. If you have a spiritual connection to the season, Christmas caroling, singing, and worshiping with like-minded people can bring long-lasting connections.

To all those I have connected with, including those in the construction industry and insurance agents, I want to wish you all a happy holiday!
