Acuity Insurance announced that it will begin writing business in Maryland. Commercial lines insurance is available now, and personal lines will be available later this year.

“Acuity is proud to bring our unmatched strength and financial stability to agents and customers in our 32nd state,” said Acuity President Melissa Winter. “Over our nearly 100-year history of doing business, we have proven our commitment to partnering with independent agents and protecting and enhancing the well-being of individuals, families, and businesses across the nation.”

Acuity offers a wide array of policies in both personal and commercial lines as well as many important and unique coverage enhancement endorsements. Effective loss control services, managed care, and claims cost containment along with expertise in hundreds of different classes of business make the carrier a strong business partner for independent agents.

To best serve Maryland independent agents, Acuity has appointed a Distribution Territory Director for the state, David Lynch, who has over 26 years of insurance experience on both the agency and company side.

“The market consistency Acuity brings to the table will be an important resource for independent agencies throughout Maryland and to agents in surrounding states who have customers with Maryland operations,” David said.

A proven leader in technology that agents use to power their agencies and serve their customers, Acuity has earned more technology awards from ACORD than any other carrier in the nation and also earned Gold Spark Awards in both commercial lines and personal lines from Ivans for the insurer’s agency connectivity successes. Acuity was also named one of the top six insurers in the country for claims service in the 2024 CRASH Network Insurer Report Card.

Acuity achieved the strongest growth in its history in 2023, and the company’s financial strength has been confirmed both by leading industry organizations as well as by its historical performance. Rated A+ by both AM Best and Standard & Poor’s, Acuity has been named to the Ward’s 50 list of top-performing property-casualty companies every year since 2000, making the company one of only four insurers, and the only regional carrier, to be named to the list for 24 consecutive years.

Headquartered in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Acuity Insurance protects nearly 150,000 businesses, including nearly 350,000 commercial vehicles, and more than 550,000 homes and private passenger autos across 32 states. The company employs more than 1,600 people.
