Acuity has been selected as a Workplace Culture Innovation honoree in the 2023 PropertyCasualty360 Insurance Luminaries recognition program, which honors insurance carriers that are modernizing and humanizing today’s property and casualty insurance business.
“We are honored to be recognized for our innovative culture that is truly unique in the insurance industry,” said Melissa Winter, Acuity President. “We dare to care for our family of employees and this award recognizes that.”
“Being a Workplace Culture Innovation award winner is a credit to everyone at Acuity who has made us a great place to work and the employer of choice in the insurance industry,” said Ben Salzmann, Acuity CEO.
“Today’s top insurance organizations recognize the industry’s history and purpose while embodying contemporary processes and services,” said NU Property & Casualty Executive Editor Elana Ashanti Jefferson. “My colleagues and I are thrilled to be able to recognize pace-setting insurance organizations, programs, practices, teams, and individuals as part of the annual NU PropertyCasualty360 Luminaries recognition program.”
2023 honorees were selected by a panel of industry experts based on how well they stated and achieved goals with regards to the nomination category; how impactful their work has been; how dedicated the nominee has been to furthering modernization and humanization in the property and casualty insurance business; and how committed and dedicated the nominee has been to high ethical standards, service, and excellence.
Acuity’s cultural innovation, begun following a change to a new upper management team in 1999, was to become the best employer to work for and the best company to do business with. These two objectives have shaped every innovation created and action taken over the past 20+ years to build better relationships with employees and agents. This included modernizing the work environment, dramatically improving communications with staff, increasing investment in staff education, creating a market-based compensation system, offering unlimited sick leave, contributing 8 percent of employees’ salaries to their 401(k)s even if they do not contribute, and many other voluntary benefits and facility enhancements.
The impact of the initiative is clear: Acuity’s turnover is consistently around 2 percent, and the company has received numerous recognitions over the years for being a great place to work. Acuity earns a 4.7 out of 5-star rating on Glassdoor and has built and maintained trust with agents by proving to be a consistent market, helping the company outperform the market in both sales and profitability.
