Room Renovations: A New Living Room on a Budget

Before heading too far down the path of decorating any room in your home, it is important to think about how the space will be used. Some rooms dictate their needs simply, such as the kitchen or a bedroom. Other rooms, like a living or family room, leave a little bit more to the imagination! And then there is that ugly word budget that brings us back to reality.

Below are a few topics to get you thinking about decorating your living or family room on a budget.

  • Theme, focus, vision. Having a vision will help you begin. You might start by choosing a focal point, such as a must-have piece of furniture that you can build the room around. It is important to have an idea of what you want in the space before buying anything.
  • Accent walls. Getting that pop of color in the room doesn’t have to take a hit to your wallet. Try using recycled materials or even a few coats of paint to bring charm and personality to your space.
  • Practicality. Many popular furniture pieces come at a higher price. Rather than throwing money at something you’ll never use or that is not comfortable, think sensibly. You can always start small and build up décor as your budget allows.
  • Accessories. One of the easiest and cheapest ways to renovate any room is by accessorizing. Something as simple as a lamp or area rug can really pull a room together. Follow the theme you’ve already established, and use these items to help finish your space.

Redecorating a room should be fun, and doing it on a budget doesn’t mean it has to be stressful. Your home is an extension of you, so let the rooms express your personality and interests. Happy decorating!
