It is the dead of winter, and you are stuck indoors. Fortunately, you don’t have to wait until it gets warm to tackle a home improvement project! You may be wondering what kind of home improvement projects you can accomplish. With a little motivation, there are actually several indoor projects that could enhance any room.

Some are for DIY types who aren’t afraid to roll up their sleeves, while others may require a more skilled contractor. It all depends on your comfort level. From minor changes to light construction, you have many options when it comes to home projects you can do indoors this year.

Paint. Whether it is a fresh coat on the ceiling or a new color in the bedroom, painting can be a great winter weather project. You may not be able to air out the room by opening the windows, but low VOC and no odor paints that help eliminate the smell are common.

Change Door Hardware or Light Fixtures. New hardware on cabinets can be a major improvement. Look to swap out old or outdated hardware with something new. Light fixtures, too, are often a forgotten home project.

Organize. Take some time to get the house organized, as January is Get Organized Month! While organization may not come to mind when you think about home improvement, it can do wonders for the look of any room. Closets are a great place to start.

Redecorate. New year, new layout? It can be fun to redecorate and update the rooms in your home. Simply moving furniture around can make a big difference.

New Flooring. Depending on demand in your area, winter can be an opportunity for a deal on new flooring. If your flooring is old and worn out, be sure the check around for sales or specials as warehouses may try to clear out inventory from last year.

Kitchen Remodel. From countertops to cabinets, there are many projects you can take on in the kitchen. Changes in the kitchen can be a major facelift for the whole house.

Finish off the Basement. This is a project that will require more skill and expertise. During the winter months, many contractors have more time for smaller indoor projects than they do during the busy construction season. Take advantage of availability in their schedules.
